About the Rado DiaStar Original Collection
The DiaStar collection introduced in 1962 was launched as the world’s first scratch-resistant watch. The debut of this collection marked the brand's devotion to innovation, positioning them as the “Master of Materials” long before the widespread adoption of sapphire crystals in watchmaking. Crafted from ultra-resistant hard metal, the original DiaStar employed an alloy of carbide tungsten powder formed through a meticulous sintering process. This bold use of technology and design encapsulated the forward-thinking ethos that continues to define Rado watches today.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The Rado R808, based on the ETA movement, is a high-quality calibre staple in many of Rado's skeleton watches, including the DiaStar Original Skeleton, Captain Cook High Tech Ceramic Skeleton, and True Square Skeleton. This automatic movement boasts an anti-magnetic Nivachron™ hairspring, ensuring exceptional precision and reliability. It has been rigorously tested in five positions. Calibre R808 features 25 jewels, operates at a frequency of 21,600bph, and includes an anchor-shaped bidirectional rotor decorated with Geneva stripes. It offers a generous power reserve of 80 hours.
